Why Are You Settling for Less Than God’s Best?

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”— John 10:10

Let that sink in for a moment.

Jesus is comparing Himself to a shepherd, and us to sheep. Not the most flattering image, I’ll admit—sheep aren’t exactly known for their intelligence or independence. But here’s the beautiful part: while thieves sneak in to steal and destroy, Jesus opens the gate wide and calls us by name.

He doesn’t offer us mere survival.
He doesn’t promise us just enough to get by.
He offers us abundance.

What Does Abundant Life Actually Look Like?

Here’s what abundant life is NOT:

  • It’s not necessarily a fatter bank account
  • It’s not an easier road with fewer problems
  • It’s not a life free from pain or disappointment

The Greek word Jesus uses here paints a picture of something overflowing, exceeding the ordinary, spilling over the edges. It’s life in all its fullness—the kind that fills your lungs with purpose and your days with meaning.

Think about a glass of water. Survival is getting just enough sips to not die of thirst. Abundant life is standing under a waterfall.

That’s the difference Jesus offers.

The Thief vs. The Shepherd

Jesus draws a stark contrast in John 10. On one side, you have the thief—sneaking around with empty promises and hidden agendas. The thief’s motto? “What can I take from you?”

On the other side, you have Jesus—the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep intimately, who calls each one by name, who laid down His life so we could pick ours up.

That’s not just poetic language. That’s not religious platitudes. That’s the scandalous generosity of God.

While the enemy wants to steal your joy, kill your dreams, and destroy your purpose, Jesus came to give you life—real life, full life, overflowing life.

survival mode that we can’t imagine what thriving looks like.

What Jesus Really Died For

Here’s what I want you to hear today, and I need you to let this truth sink deep into your soul:

Jesus didn’t suffer and die so you could merely exist.

Read that again.

The cross wasn’t about giving you just enough grace to squeak into heaven. It wasn’t about providing a minimal standard of spiritual life support.

He came so you could truly LIVE.

Living abundantly means:

  • Knowing you’re loved beyond measure, not because of what you do but because of who He is
  • Finding rest for your restless soul in a world that never stops spinning
  • Experiencing joy even in hard times because you’re connected to the source of all life
  • Walking with purpose, knowing your days matter and your life has meaning
  • Being filled to overflowing so you can pour into others

Your Next Step

Stop settling for scraps in the corner when there’s a feast spread before you.

Stop nibbling on the world’s empty promises when Jesus offers you living water.

Stop merely existing when you were designed to truly live.

The abundant life isn’t just good news, friend. It’s the best news you’ll hear all day.

And it’s available right now.

Keep Looking Up!

Heaven is closer than you think.

May God bless your day.
