Is the Bible Really True? (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)
In 1947 a shepherd boy threw a rock into a cave near the Dead Sea and heard pottery break. Inside those jars were scrolls hidden away for nearly two thousand years. One was the book of Isaiah, a thousand years older than any copy scholars had ever seen. When they laid it beside the newer text, it matched almost word for word.
People still ask the oldest question in the world. Is the Bible really true? Two verses answer it. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16), and “holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21).
Inspired
The word in 2 Timothy 3:16 is theopneustos, which means God-breathed. Paul did not say the Bible holds a few of God’s words here and there. He said all of it carries the breath of God. Peter tells us how it happened. Men wrote, but the Holy Spirit moved them, the way wind fills a sail and carries the ship. Forty writers, sixty-six books, fifteen hundred years, one unbroken story. Only God could author a book like that.
Inerrant
Because God breathed it, the Bible tells the truth. God cannot lie (Titus 1:2), so His Word cannot fail. Jesus prayed, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). Skeptics have lined up against it for centuries, and the Book keeps standing. Spades turn up cities once dismissed as myth. Manuscripts pile up by the thousands and agree. When God speaks, He gets it right.
Indestructible
Kings have burned it. Empires have banned it. Yet here it sits on your shelf. Isaiah wrote, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8). That scroll in the clay jar proved his point. Nearly two thousand years buried, and Isaiah still reads true. You can trust a Book that time cannot kill.
So pick it up. Read it like the living thing it is. It has outlasted every hand that tried to bury it, and it will outlast every doubt you bring to it.
And that, friend, is how God lifts up your day.
