Our Position in Christ
Have you ever watched a game where you already knew the final score?
Maybe you recorded it. Maybe a friend spoiled it before you got home. But something changes when you watch a game you know the outcome of. The tension is different. You’re not biting your nails, wondering if your team will win. You’re watching how they won.
That’s exactly how we’re supposed to live the Christian life.
We’re not fighting for victory. We’re fighting from victory. And the scoreboard has already been settled.
Colossians 2:13–15 lays it out in past tense. Done. Finished. He has made you alive. He has forgiven you. He has taken the debt certificate that stood against you and wiped it out—the Greek word means to erase completely, like a sponge across a chalkboard. Every charge. Every failure. Every line item on the record of your sin. Obliterated.
And then Jesus cried out from the cross, “It is finished.” That wasn’t a whimper of defeat. The Greek word tetelestai was stamped on business documents in the first century. It meant one thing: paid in full.
John Broadus, the great Baptist preacher and founder of Southern Seminary, wrote that this redemption remains an accomplished fact—not a hope, not a wish, but a settled reality.
So why does the enemy still fight?
Good question. Satan is defeated, but he hasn’t been finally sentenced yet. He’s like a convicted criminal awaiting his court date—his fate is sealed, but he’s still causing trouble in the hallway. Every attack he launches is against someone who is already seated with Christ in victory. You’re not fighting to win. You’re enforcing a victory already won.
And here’s what that means for you: authority.
A police officer may not be the strongest person on the street. But when he holds up his badge, he has the entire justice system behind him. When you stand in Christ, you have the throne room of heaven behind you. Luke 10:19 says He gave you authority to trample serpents and scorpions—and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
R.G. Lee put it this way: “We are not beggars looking for crumbs. We are children of God.”
So stop living like the outcome is uncertain. The battle is finished. The debt is paid. The enemy is defeated. And your position? Seated with Christ—far above every power, every principality, every name that can be named.
You already know how this ends. Now live like it.
Keep Looking Up!
Heaven is closer than you think.
May God bless your day.
